Regreen Arts! 2009

©O JUN/Regreen Arts

Regreen Arts! 2009 is being held as part of the Regreen Project, which was born out of the concept of "wanting to combine at a comfortable distance urban life and a rich natural environment." Regreen Arts! grew out of a single building in Mizukuchi, Yamanashi city, with the aim of giving root to a new culture in which "art" and "nature," and "cities" and "local communities" are in harmony. It consists of a "slow art project" and a "summer-camp residence" , and various other programs will also be on offer, including a series of video art screenings, and work shops by artists and other expertise, all of which are designed to enable participants to experience communing with and thinking about nature through creating. Arts! involves not only viewing but also action on the part of the audience.

Slow Art Project
Scheduled for completion on July 31, 2014. Observe in real time the art activities of four artists. This project designed to nurture art over five years. Starting this summer, four artists resident in Yamanashi will slowly create art while interacting with the natural environment of the hills at the back of the site. Scheduled for completion in five years time, the project will embody the passage of time and the artists' desires as they change from day to day.

Summer Camp Residence
Experience the group work of the next generation of artists who get together at Regreen.
Three teams of students from Tokyo and Yamanashi will spend around two weeks of their summer vacation living at the camp, each creating their own artwork. The experience will give rise to various encounters with nature, with other residents, and with the artwork.

Video Art Screening
Enjoy the "now" of video art while feeling mountain breezes.
The theme is "a message 'from nature.'" The concept is a conversation with nature in the form of the acceptance of the message being communicated by nature and the transmission of a message back to nature. Artists from Japan and overseas have been invited to submit video artwork for this project, which is an attempt to question from various angles what it means to be in touch with nature.

Other Programs
