void+ is pleased to host an exhibition - MININO MACHO, MININO FÊMEA - by a Portuguese film director, Pedro Costa from July 28th through August 3rd.
This video installation work is related to “No Quarto Da Vanda” (In Vanda's Room) and “Juventude em Marcha” (Colossal Youth,) both films will be screened at Costa's retrospective “Filmografia do Realizador Pedro Costa- 2010”at Europace to cerebrate his new film premier, "Ne change rien"(Change Nothing) on July 31st in Japan.

Two images, inside and outside, from the materials of "No Quarto Da Vanda” (In Vanda's Room) and “Juventude em Marcha“(Colossal Youth), are projected at the same time, while the sound of them also simultaneously heard. Eventually the boundary of inside and outside are faded to becomes of a no border space. This work is titled in the language of Cabo Verde, which beautifully
captures its “moment” and “space” of a Lisbon's slum town, Fontainhas area during he was filming.

Born in Lisbon in 1959, Costa majored in history and literature at the University of Lisbon, and immersed himself in rock music during his youth. He studied filmmaking at the National Film School under Antonio Reis. In 1984, he directed the short film Cartas a Júlia and made his first full-length film, O Sangue, in 1989. Since then, Costa has received international attention as a leading Portuguese director for Casa de Lava (1994) and Ossos (1997). He is filmmaking in the slums of suburban Lisbon, Fontainhas with small film crew. He shot Vanda Duarte, appeared in Ossos, also shot there and her family for two years and made In Vanda’s Room (2000). In Vanda’s Room was theatrical release in Japan first time ever Costa's works and holding his retrospective. After Danièle Huillet, Jean-Marie Straub cineastas: Où gît votre sourire enfoui? (2001), he made Colossal Youth (2006), which was presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006 and has been screened at many other international festivals. His latest work is Ne change rien (2009), captures music activities of French actress / singer Jeanne Balibar.
